Jewson Novices' Chase Odds
He's Shirley The Winner!
By the time the Jewson Novices' Chase rolls round, we've thrown the 2010 Weatherbys Cheltenham Betting Guide out the window and resorted to the Grand National method of selecting a horse. This normally constitutes one of three things: a) The eeny, meeny, miny, moe policy b) wherever the dart lands or c) the 'I like the name and funny colours' strategy. To clarify, the latter has been employed for the Jewson... although we won't deny we are huge Shirley Bassey fans. Despite our random decision, Colin Tizzard's Hey Big Spender looks to have the form in the book to hold the opposition on his return to Prestbury Park. He won there last time out and is an improver. Can Joe Tizzard get a sweet tune out of the 7 year old? Thurs 1.30pm C4/RTE
Pertemps Hurdle Final Betting
Your Prince Charming
Better known for his globe trotting with flat horses and winning the likes of the Melbourne Cup, Dermot Weld describes bringing some horses across to Cheltenham as a "bit of a hobby." It'll be a pretty fruitful hobby if Prince Erik wins the Pertemps Hurdle Final. "Prince Erik was sixth in the 2007 Irish Derby," Weld contends to possibly highlight the quality of the horse. He doesn't go on to mention he finished 16 lengths behind the eventual winner, but that's irrelevant. Just like his own statement. "When everything goes his way he is very good. He appears to stay and must have a good chance," the Master of Rosewell added. A New Story gave the form line a boost when he won the Cross Country race on Tuesday too. You could be paid Prince-ly for a bet on Erik! Thurs 2.05pm C4/RTE
Ryanair Chase Betting
Hitting a Purple Patch
In the course of researching which horse to bet on in the Ryanair Chase there was loads of hidden charges, we discovered Deep Purple is set to rock Malaysia in May. He'll be a bit busy in the coming months and must try to win a race at Cheltenham first. Who knows, he might give us a song afterward. Anyhoo, considering he was pulled up with a broken blood vessel in the King George, you can understand why he is such a big price. However, if he retains the potential shown earlier in the season and the injury has passed, he'll be a good each-way bet. The good ground will boost his chances too, trainer Evan Williams says, on Twitter - we think. Sure didn’t he invent it? Can the nine year old dig Deep and fly to victory in the Ryanair? Thurs 2.40pm C4/RTE

World Hurdle Betting
Tidal Power!
When Tidal Bay won the Arkle, like so many before him, he was tipped for future glory and even his trainer Howard Johnson will be the first to admit he was carried away on a wave of hype. Probably wouldn't use that pun, but that's what we get paid for. The nine year old bounced backed to winning ways in spectacular style in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham and his County Durham handler was quick to remark "He's a quality horse. It's like with people, class always tells." Jockey Denis O'Regan isn't as confident and rolled out a hackneyed cliché. "The World Hurdle is going to be a very hard race to win but if you're not in, you can't win." Thanks Denis, we're all the wiser for that. Has Tiday Bay still got the World at his hooves? Thurs 3.20pm C4/RTE
Liverpool v Lille
A Lil' Bit Clichéd
We're not sure where Lille's Adil Rami learnt to speak English but from his heavy use of tired clichés, we're guessing he's been spending a little too much time listening to the guys on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday. Maybe not Paul Merson though. Rami was at least able to construct coherent sentences. "We're holding all the cards. But at the same time, we should keep our feet on the ground because if we can win at home then so can they. It'll be a true battle and we'll need to give it our all. But even if we concede three at Anfield and go out, I'm sure we'll have done our best." Lille won the first leg but in a tie of two halves, the cream should rise to the top, the Kop crowd will be a 12th man and Torres could put them to the sword by Rami-ing in the first goal. Thurs 8.05pm Five/Set Irl
IPL Cricket Betting
Battle Royal!
Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals didn't get off to the best of starts in this year's Indian Premier League. While Danielle Lloyd would probably be pleased if she followed cricket, their fans won't be. Two defeats, Graeme Smith fracturing his finger and Shane Warne, despite hair extensions, getting fatter and older proves they're on a downward spiral. Shilpa reckons her team "will move up" but that's not surprising because they're currently propping up the table. Swapnil Asnodkar has been particularly lacklustre, failing to live up to his potential, but, we reckon he’ll turn a corner against Royal Challengers. Will Asnodkar be Ind-a mood to be Rajasthan's Top Runscorer? 2pm ITV4, Setanta & YouTube - IPL Matches
