Sunday’s Community Shield turned out to be the mouth watering affair no-one really anticipated. Chelsea can revel with the fact they beat the current champions. Man Utd can convince themselves it was a meaningless match but the reality is that they’ve a lot to ponder.

No one needs to be reminded about the start of season. Both the English and Scottish top divisions start at 12.45 on Saturday.
