Betting Review

Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets.

Now, had I picked Slovenia and New Zealand instead of Bosnia and New Zealand to qualify for the World Cup Finals I’d be sitting here having made a tasty profit. Still, it’s nice to see some underdogs at the Finals, even if they did win at the expense of a very, very dubious goal…. (more…)

Whilst this year may be the first ATP World Tour Finals, the tournament has actually been existence in various guises since Stan Smith won the Masters Grand Prix event back in 1970. The event became the Tennis Masters Cup in 2000 where it first appeared in its current format and from 2009 it moves to the O2 Arena London and will combine both the ATP singles and doubles events.

Qualification for the event this year went down to the final tournament in Paris with the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco claiming the final spot at the expense of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He joins Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro, Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko at the showpiece event. A late addition to the tournament was Swede Robin Soderling who was called up after world number six Andy Roddick was forced to withdraw with a knee injury. (more…)

World Cup 2010 - Qualifying Play-Offs

After the exciting end to the regular qualification programme with last gasp qualification secured for the likes of Germany, Argentina, Honduras, Slovakia and Chile, this weekend sees eight European, two Asian and two sides from the Americas compete for six places in South Africa.

Europe

The Republic of Ireland finished their qualification campaign unbeaten and it was only the ruthless efficiency of perennial qualifies Italy that thwarted the Irish in their bid to qualify by rights. Giovanni Trappatoni’s team face France in the play-offs and despite the 1998 winners favouritism, I think these ties are more closely matched than many people believe. (more…)

Betting Review

Never let it be said that we don’t know our darts. With his Players Championship win at Nuland his first title since 2001, and with the likes of Adrian Lewis, Michael van Gerwen and James Wade in his way at the European Championships, we knew it would take a lot for Steve Beaton to progress. However, the likeable Midlander did us proud with some stunning performances on his way to the final in Hoofddorp where he fell at the final hurdle to Phil Taylor. Still, with our each way punt at 125/1 that landed us a 31.25 point profit. (more…)
