Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets.

One shot in the South African Open was all that stopped us from a lovely pre-Christmas profit on South African Darren Fichardt. His score of 278 saw him tie for sixth place, frustratingly one place off an each-way payout which I tipped here at 50/1.

2pts Tony O’Shea to win the BDO Darts World Championship at 3/1

Whilst the BDO World Championships might be like the Uzbekistan FA Cup in comparison to the PDC’s Champions League, there is still something terribly addictive about watching the darts on the BBC from the Lakeside Country Club. (more…)

Since taking over as England manager in 2008, Fabio Capello has selected fifty five players in his various World Cup squads. From Gabriel Agbonlahor to Luke Young the Italian has had a chance to examine the credentials of over four dozen potential internationals, and with the World Cup just six months away Capello’s job is to now whittle that list down to the twenty-two he will take to South Africa in June.

According to the markets, there are nine players who can start booking their tickets already. Captain John Terry, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney are all 1/100 to travel with Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole at 1/50. Gareth Barry is a favourite of Capello’s and can be backed at 1/20 and Jermain Defoe and Rio Ferdinand are 1/16 and 1/12 respectively. (more…)

The prize money at the Alexandra Palace reaches £1million for the first time in 2010 with the winner taking a cool £200,000. Kicking off on Friday 18th December, the tournament runs throughout the festive period with the final on Sunday January 3rd 2010. (more…)

Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets.

We had a nice little win this week after backing Paul Nicholl’s Poquelin in the Boylesports.com Gold Cup. Although he went off as 7/2 favourite, we backed him earlier in the week at 6/1 for a twelve point profit. We nearly had an each-way win on Darren Fichardt in the Alfred Dunhill as well but the South African sadly fell away on the final day after being tied in tenth after three rounds.

1pt Wolves/Tenerife double at 5/1
It has come to something when your manager sends out a reserve team at Old Trafford in order to rest players for a home match against Burnley. Bizarre as that decision might seem, three points for Wolves on Sunday would continue their excellent recent form which saw back-to-back wins against Bolton and Spurs. (more…)
