World Cup 2010 - Top Goalscorer Betting
Posted by Dai Gallagher at 4:37pm December 11th, 2009
There are three simple rules I like to consider when deciding where to place my money on the Top Goalscorer in a World Cup finals.
Firstly, in six of the last seven Finals, the Golden Boot winner has played for a team which has reached at least the semi-finals of the tournament. The exception to this is, of course, our very own (if you’re English) Gary Lineker who scored six goals in England’s run to the quarter finals in Mexico in 1986. (more…)

Another win this week Forpadydeplasterer’s second place in the Tingle Creek gave us a small each-way in. We’d have been celebrating a decent win, also, if our tip Henrik Stenson had held his nerve in the Nedbank Challenge - he lost in a play-off to Australian Robert Allenby.
2pts Poquelin to win the Boylesports.com Gold Cup at 6/1
Paul Nicholls is in terrific form at the moment with recent wins for Twist Magic and Denman, amongst others. His runner in the Boylesports.com Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday is Poquelin who will have Ruby Walsh on board. The handicapper has only raised Poquelin by one pound since his great run behind Tranquil Sea in the Paddy Power and he already has a win at Cheltenham under his belt. (more…)

World Cup - European Betting Odds
If a European team is going to triumph in South Africa in July 2010, they will have to do something that no European country has done before; win a World Cup outside Europe.
With an African nation no shorter than 28/1 to take the title, however, it does look like the Cup will leave the continent next summer. With thirteen talented sides representing Europe, it could finally be the year that a European nation joins Brazil as the only country to have won the World Cup away from their own continent. (more…)

Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets. We profited from a nice ‘league leaders’ double in the football last weekend at 4/1 -Barcelona and Chelsea were pretty comfortable winners, in the end. Canada briefly looked like causing an upset at the Golf World Cup before a poor final round and defeat to the Bryan brothers cost Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach their chance at the ATP Tour Finals doubles.
1pt Deportivo La Coruna to beat Barcelona at 4/1
Taking on Barcelona at the moment might seem like madness. Pep Guardiola’s side sit on top of La Liga after their superb 1-0 win over rivals Real Madrid last Sunday and Barca are firm favourites to retain both the title and Champions League that they win in 2009. (more…)

Well, I underestimated Kauto Star and (as did many) overestimated the talents of Notre Pere in the Betfair Chase. We’d have had a payout if the Dubai World Championship had been played over one round instead of four (although a top fifteen finish for a 45/1 shot (Robert Allenby) isn’t a bad call) and Gijon’s 0-0 draw at Xerez cost us a nice little football double.
