Sad news for West Ham’s fans and one of their stars emerged this week when Dean Ashton was forced to retire from the game after suffering an ankle injury on international duty in 2006. At 26 a large chunk of Ashtons career has been cut short and the Hammers will be looking to end the week on a high with a good result against Birmingham.

There has also been talk of a takeover this week with former Blues owners David Gold and David Sullivan poised to make an offer for the club, so they will want to show their possible new suitors what they can do against a team they know all too well. (more…)

One player who has travelled with the squad is young French winger Gabriel Obertan. The 20-year-old has made a handful of impressive appearances since overcoming an injury in the summer and is 18/1 to score first in Germany. (more…)

Football Betting Preview

After picking up only their second home win of the season last weekend West Ham face Man Utd at Upton Park on Saturday. A 5-3 thriller against Burnley saw the Hammers jump out the relegation zone and Gianfranco Zola will be hoping his team can build upon this and get a result against the champions. United saw off Portsmouth with an impressive 4-1 win last weekend with Wayne Rooney grabbing a hat-trick. The Reds have suffered two defeats in their last five games though (1-0 away to Chelsea and 1-0 at home to Besiktas) and the East London side do have a respectable recent history against Sir Alex’s side. Despite a 1-0 win thanks to a Ryan Giggs strike at Upton Park last season, the Hammers had won the last two encounters at home. You can get 16/1 on West Ham to take this game 1-0. (more…)

Since the arrival of Roman Abramovich at Stamford Bridge in 2003 the Blues have a good record against their London rivals.
