Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets.

Now, had I picked Slovenia and New Zealand instead of Bosnia and New Zealand to qualify for the World Cup Finals I’d be sitting here having made a tasty profit. Still, it’s nice to see some underdogs at the Finals, even if they did win at the expense of a very, very dubious goal…. (more…)

After a successful debut in 2008, the European Darts Championships returns this Thursday for four days of what should be extremely high quality darts.

2008’s tournament attracted some of the world’s best players to the Südbahnhof in Frankfurt. After a first round which saw leading players Terry Jenkins, Roland Scholten and John Part dumped out of the tournament, the second round saw some scintillating darts as Phil ‘the Power’ Taylor scored the second highest average in televised darts history (a stunning 113.92) in his 9-3 win over Mervyn King. Not much to report this week - Cape Cobras excellent 175-5 still wasn’t enough to beat Trinidad and Tobago in the Champions League Twenty20, Liverpool comprehensively outplayed Manchester United, Bart Cummings won another Cox Plate and the less said about Michael Lorenzo-Vera’s performance at the Castello Masters, the better…
 

1pt Getafe to beat Real Madrid at 6/1

You’d have thought that spending £226million might have gone some way towards Real Madrid re-establishing themselves as Spain’s premier footballing force. The reality has been very different, however, and Manuel Pellegrini’s team go into Saturday’s crunch fixture with only one win in the last five games and the manager’s job already on the line.
