Champions League Betting – Football Previews

Liverpool Betting

After a weekend which saw Chelsea and Liverpool suffer defeat in their Premier League challenge they will be looking to turn their fortunes around in the Champions League this week.

Liverpool face a Lyon side that are yet to concede a goal in this season’s group stages and have two wins from as many games.

Rafa Benitez’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat in Fiorentina in their last match while they only managed a 1-0 victory over Debrecen in the opening game. A 1-0 defeat to Sunderland at the weekend thanks to controversial Darren Bent strike has seen the Merseysiders drop down the table and they will be hoping for an immediate response.

I expect the points to be shared at Anfield in a 2-2 draw at 12/1 but remember if Lisandro Lopez scores the last goal, Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goal scorer, correct score and scorecast singles on the match.

Arsenal Betting

Arsenal travel to AZ Alkmaar in Group H and are looking to maintain their 100% record. AZ have suffered a slow start to the Dutch league following their title success last year and are adapting to the ways of new manager Ronald Koeman.

The Gunners meanwhile have been in fine form scoring 27 goals in eight league games and are on a run of seven successive wins in all competitions. Arsene Wenger’s side should ease past AZ and I would fancy them to continue their goal scoring exploits winning 3-1 which can be backed at 10/1. Tomas Rosicky has been superb since his return from a long-term absentee and I would take the 7/2 on him to score at anytime.

Chelsea Betting

Chelsea look to bounce back from defeat to Aston Villa by maintaining their 100% record in Europe against Atletico Madrid, a team that have just one win to their name in La Liga this season.

Nicolas Anelka has opened the scoring in two of Chelsea’s last three games and is a 7/2 to do the same again. I’d also back the Draw/ Chelsea at 11/4 in the half-time/ full-time betting.

In the Europa League the two British clubs face massive tests with Everton away to Benfica and Fulham hosting Italian giants Roma.

Everton Betting

The Toffees struggled to break down Wolves at the weekend and will need to make improvements if they are to take anything from a clash with Benfica who are unbeaten in seven league games. David Moyes’ side may struggle and I will go for 2-1 Benfica at 7/1.

Fulham Betting

Fulham top Group E with four points but have been making numerous changes to their starting line-up in their previous European fixtures. I would hope Roy Hodgson plays a full strength side and if he does, I see no reason why Fulham can’t get a 1-1 draw at 5/1. If Hodgson fields a weakened side though I fully expect to see the Italians dominate and 4-0 Roma at 80/1 will be more attractive.
