Champions League Tips – February 14th & 15th

Preview – Champions League Last 16

Scudetto holders AC Milan have added promising young striker Stephan El Shaarawy to their Champions League squad ahead of the visit of Arsenal to the San Siro. New signings Djamel Mesbah and Maxi Lopez will also be eligible to face the Gunners but veteran Fillipo Inzhagi has been left out by Rossoneri coach Massimiliano Allegri as the seven-times European champions begin their quest for yet another quarter-final appearance. Milan are Evens to gain a first-leg advantage against the Gunners but haven’t been in the best of form so far this month having being held by Napoli in their last home game in Serie A and losing a vital clash with Lazio in Rome earlier. Zlatan Ibrahamovic can play in Europe, however, despite in the midst of a domestic ban and Milan are always dangerous opponents on home soil, losing only to Barcelona in the group stages.

Arsenal have had to take a circuitous route to the last 16 having come through a qualifying round but their only defeat so far came when fielding a weakened side against Olympiakos in Greece when already assured of top spot in Group F and the majority of their big guns will be back for the trip to the San Siro. Having already won in Italy during the current campaign, Arsene Wenger’s team may be capable of keeping things tight in the first leg and emerging with a draw, which we have priced up at 11/5.

AC Milan v Arsenal Betting

Despite topping Manchester United’s group, Benfica looked nothing special in either game against the Premier League champions and Zenit St Petersburg could edge out the Portuguese side in Russia at 6/5 while few will want to oppose Barcelona at 2/5 against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. Pep Guardiola’s team found the net 20 times in winning five of their six group games and only conceded four. Their opponents did win all three of their home games in making it this far but have a habit of conceding soft goals and you’d expect Barca’s lethal strike force to punish any errors.

Bayer Leverkusen v Barcelona

Lyon should also be too strong for Apoel Nicosia at the Stade Garland at 4/9 but the Cypriot side must be applauded for being the first from that country to reach the knockout stages and they’ll be doing their utmost to make sure the tie isn’t out of reach before the return leg.
