Football Betting Preview
After picking up only their second home win of the season last weekend West Ham face Man Utd at Upton Park on Saturday. A 5-3 thriller against Burnley saw the Hammers jump out the relegation zone and Gianfranco Zola will be hoping his team can build upon this and get a result against the champions. United saw off Portsmouth with an impressive 4-1 win last weekend with Wayne Rooney grabbing a hat-trick. The Reds have suffered two defeats in their last five games though (1-0 away to Chelsea and 1-0 at home to Besiktas) and the East London side do have a respectable recent history against Sir Alex’s side. Despite a 1-0 win thanks to a Ryan Giggs strike at Upton Park last season, the Hammers had won the last two encounters at home. You can get 16/1 on West Ham to take this game 1-0.
The battle of the pound notes takes place at Eastlands with Manchester City hosting Chelsea. The Blues have a fine record on the road against the Citizens in the Premier League with 10 wins, one loss and one draw. City have struggled in recent times against Chelsea scoring in just two of the last 14 games. City were considerably poorer during these spells but after a huge wad of Arab money being pumped into the club during the summer they won’t roll over easily. Carlo Ancelotti’s side saw off Arsenal with an impressive 3-0 win last Saturday in a show of power, efficiency and quality. It’s hard to see past them for the title at the moment as they steamroll all those around and I expect them to show City who’s boss at the weekend. A 2-0 Chelsea win is available at 8/1 while Frank Lampard is 7/1 to score last, remember if Nicolas Anelka scores the last goal in the game Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st / last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the match.
At Craven Cottage, Fulham go head-to-head with Sunderland who have a knack of beating the big teams and struggling against those in and around them. Fulham have four wins from their seven homes games this season and since Roy Hodgson’s appointment almost two years ago the Cottagers have gone from being relegation candidates to an established Premier League side. The Black Cats have a dismal away record this campaign with just one win in seven and a measly five goals. I expect Fulham to win 2-1 available at 7/1. I also fancy American forward Clint Dempsey to continue his rich vein of form (five goals in his last six league games) and open the scoring at 13/2.
Phil Brown’s Hull side travel to Aston Villa and will be looking to continue their run of four games without defeat. Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in the last nine games and the Tigers have managed seven goals in the last three games. Stephen Hunt is an attractive 18/1 to open the scoring as the Tigers look to edge away from the drop zone.
