The third round of the Carling Cup gets underway on Tuesday night and what better way to showcase the English League Cup than a mouth-watering North London derby between Spurs and Arsenal.

There is a number of other high-profile matches also taking place tonight, including the all-Premiership clashes between Stoke and Fulham and Sunderland v West Ham United. Let’s take a look at the betting for the North London derby and try and provide some profitable football tips.

Preview

Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is expected to start in goal for the Gunners and he could be joined by 19-year old Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, midfielders Craig Eastmond and Henri Lansbury, defenders Johan Djourou and Kieran Gibbs along with Mexican forward Carlos Vela. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will also opt for some senior players so we could see Emmanuel Eboue, Tomas Rosicky, Thomas Vermaelen and Marouane Chamakh all make the starting eleven.

Spurs will likely start with Roman Pavlyuchenko up front. The Russian came on as a substitute, and scored, in the 3-1 win over Wolves last weekend. Former Arsenal trainee David Bentley is also expected to get the nod along with Niko Kranjcar, who has been somewhat of a spectator so far this season for Spurs. I also expect them to start both Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacios in midfield with perhaps Kaboul and Bassong in central defence.

Betting Tips

Number of Team Goals: Arsenal to Score 4 or More Goals 14/1 1pt win

Quite surprised to see the generous odds on offer for this bet considering the weakness of the Spurs defence and how effective Arsenal’s attacking threat is. The Gunners have notched up an impressive 19 goals in their last five competitive games and I’m expecting that run to continue in the Carling Cup at White Hart Lane

Over/Under 4.5 Goals: Over 4.5 Goals 4/1 2pt win

As above, Arsenal are in fine goal scoring form. Tottenham have also been amongst the goals of late, netting 10 in total in their last five games. This fixture has a history of high scoring affairs so don’t be surprised to see this one become a corker!

To Score 2 or More Goals: R Pavlyuchenko (Tottenham) 17/2 1pt win

The Russian has bagged 14 goals from 16 appearances in domestic cup games in English football and he should find plenty of goal scoring opportunites against an Arsenal side who are dodgy in defence.

Anytime Goalscorer: Marouane Chamakh (Arsenal) 13/8 2pt win

The former Bordeaux striker has made it clear to Arsene Wenger that he wants to start this match. The Moroccan international has already bagged 6 goals for Arsenal and it seems his early ambitions is to become an Arsenal favourite by scoring against Spurs.
