The History

There aren’t many rivalries in world football as big as Germany v England. There is no love lost between the two nations and if you think both sides respect one another, then think again! Both sides love nothing more than seeing the other inflicted with pain and misery.

The Dreaded Penalties

Let’s be honest; we all know it’s going to happen. The England / Germany rivalry has to be settled with penalties. It’s not a major tournament until England get knocked out in the cruellest manner.

The English (and Dutch) are known for their many losses on penalty shootouts. Between 1992 and 2000, the Dutch were eliminated from four major tournaments by losing a shootout (three European Championships in a row and the World Cup in 1998). Rooney fustrated but England on course for World Cup success
