Malaysian Open - Kuala Lumpur
The Malaysian Open, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour, takes place at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club this weekend.
The par 72 layout which stretches over 7000 yards is extremely similar to the PGA Tour (see other article) event this week in that the course is protected by many bunkers and accuracy will be key here in this event too. Currently the course is extremely wet (pick & place will be in operation), so expect it to play longer.
Players to note:
Thongchai Jaidee has made an encouraging start to his 2010 campaign. He is a two-time-winner of this event.
PGA Tour regular K.J. Choi competes this week.
European Tour patrons Darren Clarke, Soren Hansen & Soren Kjeldsen will all fancy their chances in the lack-lustred field.
Selection:
James Kamte (80/1) will be unknown to many readers but his form this year has been above average. The South African T4th in the recent Joburg Open, and in this event last season he finished T-11. Shiv Kapur (60/1) finished this event in 2009 second in putting and ninth in driving accuracy. The Indian finished 09 in superb form, finishing T-11 in the Alfred Dunhill & 2nd in the South African Open. He has not carried that forward into 2010 but giving his decent record on this course he’s worthy of a small bet for the event.
