Cheltenham Market Movers
With just a week to go before the greatest racing show on earth, there have been some significant market movers.
The guarantee of returned stakes in the event of Dunguib justifying his reputation in the Supreme Novices has lead to some support for Nicky Henderson’s Oscar Whisky. The unbeaten five year-old is now 11/1 from 12/1 and clear fourth best in the betting.
Willie Mullins’s Sports Line is now a 10/1 shot for the Arkle. He has never been out of the first two in his career to date and he was a feature of Time form’s horses to follow at the beginning of the season. Elsewhere in the same race, Emma Lavelle’s Kangaroo Court has attracted some each way support and is now 28/1 from 33/1.
The Champion Hurdle market is tightening fast and the increasing degrees of confidence behind Alan King’s Medermit has lead to a contraction in his price - now 7/1 from 9/1, whilst Solwhit is now out to 5/1.
Long Run now looks ominous to start favourite for the RSA Chase. The French horse has been near flawless so far on British soil and is the clear 9/4 market leader ahead of stable mate Punchestowns who is 4/1.
In the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the highlight of day two, long time favourite and dual winner Master Minded is slightly on the drift at 4/5 from 8/11, as money seemingly continues to flood in for Kalahari King - now a 5/1 chance.
Prices for Thursday’s big races stay relatively unchanged. Big Buck’s is the sure favourite for the World Hurdle at 8/13, whilst another Paul Nicholls horse, Poquelin, remains a strong 7/2 principle.
In the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the highlight for many of the whole meeting, the important information is that Kauto Star is trading at 8/11 with old foe Denman almost now back-able each way at 7/2. It’s 10/1 bar best of the rest which includes last season’s Champion Novice Cooldine (10/1), Kauto’s near conqueror Imperial Commander (10/1) and Lexus Chase winner What A Friend (20/1).
