Horse Racing Betting

An unbelievable weekend of racing with the Breeders Cup (see below) bidding to send flat racing fans into the winter on a high. The American showpiece is said to be the ultimate test of the equine thoroughbred and I look forward to seeing how the Europeans fair against the American horses. For jumping racing fans the Grade One Jwin.com champion chase is the highlight and is also supported by a nice card at Wincanton.

In the big race at Down Royal, the Jwin.com champion chase I strongly fancy Notre Pere to kick off his season in fine style. The big strapping son of Kaldako will thrive in the heavy underfoot conditions. He is some peoples favourite for the Gold Cup in March (with soft ground) so today should be a penalty kick for him. At 11-10, it’s a short price but a sure winner in my eyes. (more…)

Betting Review

Never let it be said that we don’t know our darts. With his Players Championship win at Nuland his first title since 2001, and with the likes of Adrian Lewis, Michael van Gerwen and James Wade in his way at the European Championships, we knew it would take a lot for Steve Beaton to progress. However, the likeable Midlander did us proud with some stunning performances on his way to the final in Hoofddorp where he fell at the final hurdle to Phil Taylor. Still, with our each way punt at 125/1 that landed us a 31.25 point profit. (more…)

Ah, the magic of the Cup. Countless clichés involving giant-killing, Ronnie Radford and David and Goliath will be trundled out on Saturday as the FA Cup reaches the first round proper. Of course, whilst there might be some mildly entertaining events along the way, the ‘magic of the Cup’ was lost sometime in the 1980s as, with the exception of isolated wins for Spurs, Everton and Portsmouth one of the ‘big Four’ has won every FA cup since 1989.

Southern League Division One South and West side Paulton Rovers, a team no doubt full of butchers and postmen (although they should be particularly fit with not much work over the last couple of weeks) host the mighty Norwich City in Round One’s big David v Goliath encounter. Considering they were beating Bayern Munich in Germany in 1993 this is more a sign of how far Norwich have fallen than how far Paulton have risen. Paulton will be looking for their own Ronnie Radford to complete a historic giant-killing. (more…)

Horse Racing Tips

Some of the UK’s top tracks are represented in both codes this weekend with the final Group One race of the domestic season taking place at Doncaster. The Racing Post Trophy has a reputation for throwing up Epsom derby winners with the likes of High Chaparral and Authorized, both winning here and going on to glory at Epsom. Newbury also holds a flat card with an evening meeting at Kempton. Over the jumps Aintree, Chepstow and Stratford get the go ahead.

Over this straight mile at Doncaster you’re going to need a horse that will stay, be held up and be brave. Step forward Elusive Pimpernel. I was very impressed with the way this colt won at York on his last start. He never really travelled out the back that day but stuck to his guns bravely to get up on the line. Stepping up a furlong today will be perfect. Also the fact that he is a hold up performer will boost his chances as front runners really struggle over a straight mile. (more…)

Review

As Scott Piercy stepped up to the seventeenth tee in his final round at the JT Shriners for Children Open leading the field, it looked like our stunning 80/1 tip was going to make us a very tidy profit. Fifteen minutes later, after the Las Vegan had double bogeyed both final holes we could only rue what might have been.

We were also close to a profit as Wigan narrowly failed to beat Manchester City whilst Allez Wonder and Andrea Dovizioso finished eighth and sixth in the Caulfield Cup and Australian MotoGP respectively. (more…)
