Liverpool’s season continue to lurch from drama to crisis and their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday was their sixth Premier League defeat of the season. They travel to Portsmouth this weekend who have shown more resilient signs under coach Avram Grant. Pompey have some appeal at 9/2.

An unexpected win at the Emirates announced Hull City to the Premier League in 2008. Much has happened since that match, however, with Arsenal looking like genuine title challengers and Hull embroiled in a battle for Premier League survival. Stoke City continue to confound critics by sitting in a comfortable mid-table position although their brand of no-nonsense, direct football doesn’t appeal to everyone. Irish hopes lay with the Colm Murphy trained Big Zeb. Other jumps meetings take place at Chepstow, Wetherby and Navan while flat racing fans are kept ticking over with customary all weather racing, at Southwell and under lights at Wolverhampton. The main surprise here is that Burnley look by far the team most likely to retain their top flight status although with their away form being pretty dire this could be a vital win for Portsmouth at 17/20.

Man City can’t seem to buy a win at the moment and after an astonishing seven consecutive Premier League draws it gets no easier on Saturday as Chelsea are the visitors. Considering the ruthless way they dispatched Arsenal on Sunday Chelsea should, once again, be good enough here. (more…)
