Horse Racing Tips
Some of the UK’s top tracks are represented in both codes this weekend with the final Group One race of the domestic season taking place at Doncaster. The Racing Post Trophy has a reputation for throwing up Epsom derby winners with the likes of High Chaparral and Authorized, both winning here and going on to glory at Epsom. Newbury also holds a flat card with an evening meeting at Kempton. Over the jumps Aintree, Chepstow and Stratford get the go ahead.
Over this straight mile at Doncaster you’re going to need a horse that will stay, be held up and be brave. Step forward Elusive Pimpernel. I was very impressed with the way this colt won at York on his last start. He never really travelled out the back that day but stuck to his guns bravely to get up on the line. Stepping up a furlong today will be perfect. Also the fact that he is a hold up performer will boost his chances as front runners really struggle over a straight mile.
In the first at Doncaster (13:15), I fancy Dylanesque to put a disappointing last run behind her. That day at Epsom she was well backed but just didn’t handle the undulations of the track. Today, on a nice fair galloping track she should go much better at a decent price. She is an Each-Way selection.
In the 4:05 at Doncaster, a horse called Hillview Boy catches my eye from the in form stable of Jim Goldie. A decent sort in bumpers for Goldie, he has also run some fine races on the flat. His ability to handle the softer conditions today will also stand him in good steed. Again he is an Each-Way selection.
In the 14:05 at Newbury, Classic Colori could be a cut above his rivals today. He went in my notebook after he won his maiden at Windsor in taking fashion (also heavily backed that day). Two horses that he beat well, have since gone on to achieve marks of 82 and 90. So in my opinion he is a 100 rated horse at least. The only negative is his 110 day absence from the track and potential softening of the ground.
In the other Group 3 at Newbury, the St Simon Stakes, Harbinger should take all the beating for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore. He is a big strapping colt by Dansili who didn’t enjoy the very quick conditions at York the last day he ran. The good to soft ground today should be perfect for him and he will take all the beating today. He is different class to this field.
