Horse Racing Tips
A wonderful weekend’s racing is in store. There are decent cards at Kempton, Newcastle, Chepstow, Navan and Lingfield. At Kempton, the Racing Post Chase is the highlight, with Nacarat / Tony McCoy combo likely to go off favourite to claim back to back races.
Kempton also hosts three other graded races, all for novices. At Newcastle, the Eider Chase is taking centre stage over a marathon trip of four miles and a furlong. The course must pass an inspection to get the go ahead though. At Lingfield, flat racing is starting to kick into gear and the Winter Derby Trial heads a good card. Racing also takes place at Navan and Chepstow.
In the 2:00 at Kempton, the Grade Two Dovecote Hurdle has a decent line-up. Adrian McGuire sends over an Irish challenger in Grey Solider and the son of Galileo should go well but he’s going to find it tough giving three pounds to Alan King’s Salden Licht. Alan King won this last year with Trenchant and is looking to book a festival ticket for the son of Fantastic Light, who is still entered up in the Supreme and County Hurdle. His style of racing will also help round the sharp Kempton bends.
A horse that catches my eye in the first at Chepstow is Sordid Secret. Evan Williams has quite a few winners at the Welsh track and his horses still seem to be running well. This is a weak maiden hurdle and the daughter of Flemensfirth could go well at a big price. She contested a stronger maiden hurdle at Towcester on her last run, fairing better then her finishing position suggests. Some of the market leaders are having their first runs over the smaller obstacles, so she also has an experience edge too. This is an each-way selection.
Charles Tizzard has been one of the top five trainers at Chepstow in recent seasons and looks to have found a weak affair for Rudivale. His son of Rudimentry has tumbled down the weights recently but put in a rejuvenated effort at Taunton the last day. Christian Williams takes the ride and he should go close.
