Hit the frame last weekend with Vision D’état finishing 2nd behind Henry Cecil’s Twice Over who had a fantastic day at Newmarket.
This Saturday we have Doncaster to look ahead to and some nice prospects in store.
First off I will chance Our Jonathan for the 5 furlong sprint.
He has won 4 races over this distance and 2 of those were in Group class over softer ground. If he’s getting back to the form of late 2009 and gets a good start here then would have an outside chance.
He was running in better class events this time last year and recent results may lead this one to go off at a price.
Doncaster 1.55 – Our Jonathan (each-way).
Galtymore Lad is entered to run in the Doncaster Stakes – he is a 3 times winner from 9 races but most importantly is the form – his last 3 races are very strong indeed. He was twice 2nd to Wotton Basset who I regard as one of the best in Europe at present.
I was interested to see Richard Hughes as a jockey booking last Saturday for this one. He must have been impressed with the win over Avonmore Star by 12 lengths so we will stick with Galtymore to prove that form is top level.
Kieran Fallon should take the ride this weekend.
Doncaster 2.25 –Galtymore Lad.
It may be worth taking a chance with Toolain who looks overpriced at 25/1 in the Racing Post Trophy – He beat my previous selection above in a strong race at Ascot, and if he reproduces that sort of form stepped up in trip then he can be involved in the places here.
A danger to all is Dunboyne Express who looks top class, but this may well be pushing out other horses in the market that are not useless.
He had clear excuses last time out when checked twice in a race when trying to finish well, and would have without doubt placed with good clear run that day so to my eyes a value bet in a competitive race.
Doncaster 2.55 – Toolain @ 25/1 (each-way)
