Betting Review

Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets.

One shot in the South African Open was all that stopped us from a lovely pre-Christmas profit on South African Darren Fichardt. His score of 278 saw him tie for sixth place, frustratingly one place off an each-way payout which I tipped here at 50/1.

2pts Tony O’Shea to win the BDO Darts World Championship at 3/1

Whilst the BDO World Championships might be like the Uzbekistan FA Cup in comparison to the PDC’s Champions League, there is still something terribly addictive about watching the darts on the BBC from the Lakeside Country Club. (more…)

The showpiece game this weekend is undoubtedly the meeting of 2 unbeaten sides, the Giants and the Saints in New Orleans. Eli Manning has been superb this season behind an even better defence plus the Giant are an excellent road team. However, Saints QB Drew Brees simply throws lots and lots of touchdowns. I’m not sure people realize how good Brees is. I think he will make a statement this weekend. I’m backing the Saints to win and beat the spread. Saints (-3pts) at 5/4. (more…)

NFL Betting Odds

Week 3 of the NFL and I have only 4 words for you. Michael Vick Ruff Ruff.

Vick is eligible to play his first game for his new team the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend following his stay in the human dog pound. Eagles number one QB Donovan McNabb is still nursing a cracked rib so Kevin Colb is likely to start at QB as he did last week. However, expect to see plenty of Vick who will appear mostly in the NFL’s hottest new thing the “Wildcat” formation. Vick broke all sorts of rushing records for quarterbacks while at Atlanta so expect him to thrive in the role. The Eagles face the hapless Kansas City Chiefs in Philly and Paddy Power is yet to put up the odds (waiting to see if McNabb is fit enough to start is my guess). However, back the Eagles to beat the spread. They will probably be -6pts in the handicap betting. They will win by at least 10 so get on it! (more…)

NFL Betting - Week 2

No doubt about it, I was red hot with my NFL tips last week. First up were the Steelers versus the Titans of Tennessee. I tipped the total points scored to be under the over/under total of 35. It was never in doubt as the two best defences of last season coughed up a mere 23 points between them. And our NFL season was up and running. Boom!

We also got our treble up with the Vikings, Falcons and Eagles all winning. The only blemish on a near perfect weekend of NFL predictions was the single on the Bears to beat the Packers. It was in the balance right until the end but Aaron Rogers pulled out a win for the Pack. Cutler’s performance (he threw for 4 interceptions) and the season ending injury for Bear’s talisman Brian Urlacher puts paid to any Superbowl aspirations Chicago had in this column’s opinion. The NFL season begins Thursday and the race to this year’s Superbowl looks like it will be the most keenly contested ever. Tom Brady is back which means the Patriots are the bookies favourites, but competition will be fierce. (more…)
