NFL Betting - Season Preview

The NFL season begins Thursday and the race to this year’s Superbowl looks like it will be the most keenly contested ever. Tom Brady is back which means the Patriots are the bookies favourites, but competition will be fierce.

Big Ben’s Steelers, the reigning Superbowl champions once again look formidable having kept all their best players and they boast the best defence in NFL. The Chargers look like real contenders with a strong defence and an excellent running game with Sproles and LT.

The Vikings have a great defence and the best running back in the NFL in Adrian Peterson. Now they also have a marquee quarterback, albeit an ageing one with Brett Favre. The Vikings cannot be dismissed.

Eli and Peyton Manning have done it before and will ensure their teams the Giants and Colts will be in the mix. What about the Bears who finally have a QB in Jay Cutler, or the Falcons who in Matty “Ice” Ryan have who many believe to be the new Tom Brady.

Philadelphia have all the elements required for a Superbowl winning team. If they can find an effective way to use the undoubted skills of the controversial Michael Vick they can beat anyone on their day.

Betting Predictions
It’s almost impossible to call but here are my picks for the season as well as a few bets for this weekend. I’m backing the Bears to win the NFC Championship marshalled by Jay Cutler at 10/1. In the AFC, I’m going for the Colts at 7/1. Peyton Manning is fit this year and hungry as hell. Brady has more rings but there is no better on field coach than Manning and he is ice cool under pressure. Colts to win the Superbowl at 12/1.

The opening game of the season on Thursday sees the Titans go up against the Steelers. Have a look at the over/under here which is 34.5 points. These two teams are the best defences in the NFL. Under 34.5 points looks to be a lock at 10/11. I’m getting in heavy on this action.

I’m also backing Cutler to handle the pressure and get off to a good start against the Packers in Green Bay. Bears win at 5/3.

My final bet is a treble, Ryan, McNabb and Favre. Yes Falcons, Eagles and Vikings.
