No doubt about it, I was red hot with my NFL tips last week. First up were the Steelers versus the Titans of Tennessee. I tipped the total points scored to be under the over/under total of 35. It was never in doubt as the two best defences of last season coughed up a mere 23 points between them. And our NFL season was up and running. Boom!
We also got our treble up with the Vikings, Falcons and Eagles all winning. The only blemish on a near perfect weekend of NFL predictions was the single on the Bears to beat the Packers. It was in the balance right until the end but Aaron Rogers pulled out a win for the Pack. Cutler’s performance (he threw for 4 interceptions) and the season ending injury for Bear’s talisman Brian Urlacher puts paid to any Superbowl aspirations Chicago had in this column’s opinion.
NFL Predictions
Moving on, I think I’ve spotted some generosity from Paddy in the handicap market for week 2 of the NFL.
- Colts (-3pts) to beat Dolphins
- Patriots (-3 pts) to beat the Jets
- Falcons (-6 pts) to beat Panthers
You are looking at over €65 back for just a €10 stake.
The Colts look much too strong for Miami. The novelty of last season wildcat formation has worn off for the Dolphins and I cannot believe Peyton Manning won’t lead the Colts to victory by more than 3 points.
The Jets had a great opening week win with rookie QB Mark Sanchez in devastating form against a much fancied Texans team. However, did you see the final 2 minutes of the Pats v Bills? Tom Brady is back and all the cobwebs are now gone following week one. I expect the Patriots win by a lot more than 3.
The Panthers are coming off the back of a thumping defeat at the hands of the Eagle while the Falcons looked in control in Miami winning 19-7. Like I said last week, Matty “Ice” Ryan, the Falcons QB is the new Tom Brady. I expect the Falcons to comfortable beat the spread in their home opener.
In the big Sunday Night Game sees Eli versus Romo as the Giants take on the Cowboys in the first regular season game at the brand new Cowboys Stadium, which is equipped with a centre-hung high-definition television screen, the largest in the world measuring 160 by 72 feet. Just one thing, they didn’t hang it high enough.
Punters have been hitting it for fun in pre-season, so much so the NFL has had to introduce a rule on what happens if it is hit by a punter during the game. Paddy hasn’t missed a trick and is offering 6/5 that the screen will be hit in its NFL Specials section. It’s definitely worth a fiver my friends. As for the game, it would be just like the Cowboys to lose. Go for a Giants (-2.5 pts) win and to beat a measly spread.
