Betting Review
Welcome to our weekly column where we try and seek good value in some longer odds bets.
We had a nice little win this week after backing Paul Nicholl’s Poquelin in the Boylesports.com Gold Cup. Although he went off as 7/2 favourite, we backed him earlier in the week at 6/1 for a twelve point profit. We nearly had an each-way win on Darren Fichardt in the Alfred Dunhill as well but the South African sadly fell away on the final day after being tied in tenth after three rounds.
1pt Wolves/Tenerife double at 5/1
It has come to something when your manager sends out a reserve team at Old Trafford in order to rest players for a home match against Burnley. Bizarre as that decision might seem, three points for Wolves on Sunday would continue their excellent recent form which saw back-to-back wins against Bolton and Spurs.
Tenerife face an Atletico Madrid side who have lurched from crisis to crisis this season and sit just a point outside the relegation zone. The home side have an excellent record at the H.Rodriguez Lopez stadium this season whereas Madrid have only won once away from home. 2/1 is a terrific price for Tenerife to inflict more misery on the visitors.

1pt Anders Hansen to win the South African Open at 12/1
The South African Open is the second oldest Open championship in world golf, but this year it has failed to attract any of the world’s top fifty players. My pick for the Open is Anders Hansen who stands on the brink of being the first European ever to win the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit.
Hansen has won twice in South Africa already in 2009 and with his main rivals in mixed form I think he is an outstanding bet to take the Open title at 12/1.

1pt e/w Terry Jenkins to win the PDC World Championship at 33/1 (e/w ½ place 1,2)
If the Darts Regulation Authority had been able to sit before the World Championships begin at Alexandra Palace this week, there is a fair chance that Terry Jenkins wouldn’t even be in the tournament.
The sixth seed was recently banned from darts for four months after an incident at the Players Championship in Nuland in October and only a pending appeal allows him to compete in this competition.
Jenkins is in the easier (read: non-Phil Taylor) half of the draw and with question marks over the form of his main rivals - Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade and Ronnie Baxter - Jenkins could well take the most of this unexpected opportunity to prevail this time around.

0.5pts e/w Darren Fichardt to win the South African Open at 50/1 (e/w 1/5 places 1,2,3,4,5)
After his impressive performance over 54 holes at Pearl Valley last week, I am going to stick with my pick of Darren Fichardt in this weekend’s South African Open.
Had Fichardt matched his first and third round score of 67 in the final round he’d have finished in third place. A disappointing 76 cost him a top Ten finish but the home grown player has enough talent to once again challenge in this company. A South African golfer has won each of the last eight Opens and with Fichardt having two previous top three finishes in this event he is great value to do well here.
