With Moyes off to replace his Dad at Manchester United, can Martinez keep Everton above city rivals Liverpool for another season?
Roberto Martinez likes his team to play attractive football and should be a good fit for Everton. But whether he’ll be able to call upon the same players that steered the Toffees into a highly respectable sixth place last season is debateable. David Moyes wants to take England full-back Leighton Baines with him to Old Trafford while Marouane Fellaini could also be tempted by pastures new. But Martinez does inherit some exciting young talent at Goodison Park and has been striving to bring in Arouna Kone and Antonio Alcaraz from old club Wigan. He’ll be happy if the Everton defence can repeat last season’s sterling efforts, when they proved hard to break down both home and away, but they will again have one of the smallest squads in the Premier League so luck will have to play its part. The new manager is highly regarded in the game and we have odds on whether he’ll bring a trophy to Merseyside and see out his contract. Given Bill Kenwright’s loyalty to his old manager, that may be a good bet. We also have betting on Everton to repeat their top six finish this season and to win the FA Cup and League Cup.
