A new era at Anfield see new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers instilling players and fans alike with a new-found hope for attacking-minded, scintillating football on the red half of Merseyside for the first time in over two decades.
Luis Suarez’ brilliance and fallibility tended to dominate Liverpool’s season in equal measures last term but Brendan Rodgers will have to plan without the Uruguayan for the first few weeks of the new campaign at least and maybe long term if the controversial striker has his way. Philippe Coutinho looks a star in the making but Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas might need time to acclimatise to the Premier League and the Reds will again need to wrap England captain Steven Gerrard in cotton wool if they are to challenge for a Champions League spot. Not an easy thing to do with the World Cup looming large on the horizon. Results against the top four last season were disappointing and that will have to be improved upon but the addition of Simone Mignolet and Kolo Toure should compensate for Jamie Carragher’s retirement and put pressure on Pepe Reina and Martin Skrtel, and there are always those Merseyside derbies to look forward to if nothing else! You can back Liverpool to finish in the top four or top six, or place a bet on the Scousers to finish fifth or lower – the latter might appeal to Everton fans.
