If you think that the horse you fancy is unlikely to win a race, but will still put up a good show, Place Betting could be the perfect solution for you.

If you bet on a horse to finish in a place, you are backing the horse to finish in the top 2, 3 or 4, depending on the number of runners in the race.

Because the horse doesn't have to win, it can prove very useful when backing big price outsiders.

Place terms are as follows:

4 Runners Or Less

No place betting available (sorry)

Example
All 16 ran
1st Numero Uno
2nd Any Second Now
3rd Push Pineapple
4th Your Horse
5, 6 or 7 Runners
You are backing a horse to finish in the first 2 places
In this example, your horse has finished in a place and your bet is winner.
8 - 15 Runners
You are backing a horse to finish in the first 3 places
Even if your horse had won the race, you would get the same winnings as all that was required was for the horse to finish in a place.
16 or more Runners (Handicaps)
You are backing a horse to finish in the first 4 places.
